Employment Opportunities

General Function: 

Provide care to K-5th Grade children in our before and after school programs.

General Function:

Provide care to children between the ages of 6 weeks-5 years in a fun, upbeat environment.

  • To be actively involved in singing, playing and interaction with the children to promote good spirit and rapport.
  • To develop own skills in leading and teaching activities.
  • Provide care and supervision of the infants/toddlers.
  • To assist in the preparation and serving of snacks and meals.
  • To assist in daily preparation of craft materials, programs etc.

This position has an impact on the care of the children in the Lafayette area. The program will have a positive influence on members, guests and staff by the ability of the Early Childhood Counselor to perform their duties.

Supervisor: Assistant Childcare Director and Childcare Director

General Function: Under the direction of the Assistant Childcare Director and the Childcare Director and in accordance with the YMCA core values and policies, along with supervision from staff, the preschool teacher will be responsible to lead teach, supervise, and care for the children in the preschool program.

Qualifications: A CDA Credential and/or 5 years of experience or a degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred

Job Segments and Responsibilities:

  1. Uphold and exemplify the mission and principals of the YMCA
  2. Plan and direct lesson plans in the preschool program with input and final approval from the Assistant Childcare Director
  3. Provide close supervision of the students at all times
  4. Develop own skills in leading and teaching activities
  5. Be on time as scheduled
  6. Work with the maintenance staff for the cleanliness of the preschool area
  7. Promote safety at all times
  8. Prepare and serve snack and meals as required
  9. Follow correct procedures for handling emergencies and job accidents: be trained in all emergency procedures
  10. Provide weekly homegrams/newsletters to communicate with parents of the preschool program
  11. Implement daily schedule and curriculum
  12. Maintain communication with parents on a daily basis
  13. Be actively involved in playing and interacting with children to promote spirit and good rapport
  14. Do special assigned tasks that pertains to the preschool program

KNOW HOW:

Position requires a sensitive, patient, and conscientious leader with excellent knowledge in the areas of health and fitness.  This position requires the ability and desire to work with the diverse needs of the inactive market.  This individual must possess a professional image and ability to provide positive feedback, motivation, and encouragement.

Individual must possess strong communication skills; able to understand the benefits of exercise and weight training; able to think and make decisions; prevent problem situations before they happen; and help members feel connected to the Y family.  Must have positive caring attitude and be able to implement YMCA mission statement and character development philosophy (i.e.; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) into the weight room.  Minimum high school education is required.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

To provide a safe, clean, and friendly weight training facility. Provide a well maintained and operating facility with the utmost standards in mind.  Must remain in the fitness area and serve our members.  Be able to communicate with and assist members with all equipment and personal goals. To facilitate the Personal Fitness Program to the best of his/her ability by providing personalized attention, support, and motivation.  Through this individual’s performance, YMCA member involvement and retention will excel.

TRAINING:

  1. Possess current CPR and first aid certification (within first 3 months of employment)
  2. Complete the new staff orientation training within the first 3 months of employment.

General Function

Under the direction of the Membership Director, the Courtesy Counter receptionist has the major responsibility for greeting members and participants of the Lafayette Family YMCA and taking care of their needs as required.

Know How

The Courtesy Counter receptionist must posses the basic knowledge of the YMCA, it’s mission, goals and purpose. This position also requires knowledge of the YMCA staff, the basic computer skill for scanning cards and telephone etiquette.  This person must be able to work as a team player with other staff as well as act as an individual and enforce the rules and policies of the YMCA. The personality, attitude and conduct of this person must be of high standards and reflect the mission of the YMCA.

Principle Activities

  1. Attend all staff training as directed by the Membership Director to gain knowledge of the YMCA and job specifics.
  2. Attend all departmental staff meetings to enhance communication and information sharing as required.
  3. Prepare for reception of guests and members into the YMCA
  4. On time for all shifts
  5. Replacement found for all shifts that you are unable to work; notify supervisor in writing of all shift changes
  6. Compliance of all policies as delineated in the employee manual
  7. Cognizance of visibility to members and all behavior and actions to reflect as such
  8. Adherence to dress code
  9. Portray a Christian attitude in all aspects of the job. Display the YMCA Character Development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the job
  10. Reception of guests entering facility
  11. Check membership cards/other passes
  12. Answer any questions or refer questions to appropriate Director
  13. Being visible at all times to incoming guest and having the area secured by another staff when leaving the area
  14. Answer phones
  15. Provide support for Program Desk as needed within trained capabilities
  16. All other clerical support tasks as assigned by the Membership Director
  17. All other clerical support tasks as assigned by other Directors and/or Building  Supervisors.
