POSITION: Day Camp Horse Wrangler (Full-Time, Seasonal)

General Functions

Provides care for the horses at Straight Arrow Day Camp. Lead all horseback-riding activities for different groups of children throughout the week. Maintain and clean the horse trail, corral, and horse stalls.

Time Requirement

40 + hours a week

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have experience in equestrian care and riding
  • Experience in taking care of horses and maintaining their health
  • Previous experience working with children preferred
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

Principal Activities

  • Feeding, washing, and maintaining care of the camp horses
  • Leading  children around trails on horses
  • To be actively involved in singing, playing, and interaction with the children to promote spirit and good rapport.
  • To assist other counselors whenever possible to promote a team effort.

POSITION: Youth Sports Instructor

REPORTS TO: Youth Sports Coordinator

KNOW HOW:

Must possess the ability to supervise, organize, and manage a youth sports program; possess strong communication skills; able to interact well with children; able to think and make decisions; prevent problem situations before they happen; hold a basic knowledge of the sport; and help members feel connected to the Y family.  Must have positive caring attitude and be able to implement YMCA mission statement and character development philosophy (i.e.; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) into the youth sports program.  Minimum high school education.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the Sports Coordinator and in accordance with the Christian nature and policies of the Lafayette Family YMCA, the Youth Sports Instructor is responsible for the coordination of all youth sports programs including administration, planning, daily set-up, instruction and program evaluation, contributing to the establishment of good relations between parents, participants, volunteers, and the YMCA staff.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serving the member is our first priority, the purpose of our work, and the key to our success!

  1. Able to be present at ALL games and practices throughout the season.
  2. Monitor gymnasium on a regular basis to ensure safety and privacy of youth sports participants.
  3. Meet on a weekly basis with the Sports Director regarding status and direction of youth sports programs.
  4. Maintain equipment on a daily basis, ensuring adequate inventory and well-organized storage areas.
  5. Responsible for instruction and officiating of YMCA youth sports programs.
  6. Assist in coordinating off-site and on-site youth sports programs through the week and on Saturdays as needed.
  7. Sort and distribute T-shirts, awards, and program handbooks as needed.
  8. Attend coaches, players, and parents meetings, assisting with set-up and presentation materials.
  9. Distribute and collect evaluation forms for youth sports programs.
  10. Ensure that Christian principles are being practiced and modeled in all programs.
  11. Realize that all employees are held responsible for their duties on the job.
  12. Set up equipment before each game/practice in a timely manor (at least 15 minutes before start time) and store equipment in proper place after last game.
  13. Respond to any injuries and follow first aid and emergency procedures.  Always fill out an accident report and report incident to a Professional staff person.
  14. Attend new staff orientation, CPR and First Aid training within first three (3) months of employment and maintain necessary certifications as needed. 
  15. Must find OWN SUB in advance and turn into Youth Sports Coordinator for approval.
  16. Must wear a YMCA shirt and/or referee jersey and nametag during shift.  Keep a neat appearance with shirt tucked in.

Each Youth Sports employee will be allowed only one write-up per year.  Two write-ups will result in dismissal.

Write-ups will be given for:

  • Being late for shifts
  • Failure to comply with job description
  • Failure to perform job satisfactorily

Grounds for dismissal:

  • Not showing for a shift, or scheduled staff meeting without prior excused notice
  • Insubordination to immediate supervisor or any other Director of the YMCA 

Hours per week:    8-10

Hourly wage:         $7.25 / hour

POSTION: Early Childhood Counselor       

Supervisor:   Early Childhood Coordinator

General Function:  Under the direction of the Early Childhood Coordinator and in accordance with the YMCA core values and policies of the Lafayette Family YMCA, the Toyroom Counselor will be responsible to provide care for the children in the Toyroom and Childwatch Programs.

Responsibilities:

To be actively involved in singing, playing and interaction with the children to promote good spirit and rapport.

  1. To develop own skills in leading and teaching activities.
  2. Provide care and supervision of the infants/toddlers.
  3. To assist in the preparation and serving of snacks and meals.
  4. To assist in daily preparation of craft materials, programs etc.

Effect on End Result:

This position has an impact on the care of the children in the Lafayette area. The program will have a positive influence on members, guests and staff by the ability of the Toyroom Counselor to perform their duties.

Pay: $7.25/hour

POSITION: Personal Trainer

REPORTS TO:  Fitness Director

KNOW HOW:

Degree or seeking a degree, in physical education, health, or field related to exercise physiology.  Certification from the American College of Sports Medicine or American Council of Exercise, related YMCA certifications, or certifications from accredited organizations.  Must have a positive and caring attitude and willingness to help individuals achieve their fitness goals by implementing the YMCA mission statement and character development philosophy (i.e., caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) into personal training.

 GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

To provide safe and effective one-to-one personal training to program participants.  Be able to guide, educate, and motivate participants toward reaching their personal fitness goals.  A working knowledge of strength training, flexibility, and cardiovascular training, with the ability to pass knowledge on to participants. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serving the member is our first priority, the purpose of our work, and the key to our success!

  1. Return the call of a participant within 24 hours of receiving the message.
  2. Set up initial and follow-up appointments.
  3. Explain how the personal training program works and what personal training options are available to members.
  4. Be available to train on an as-needed basis.
  5. Remind members of appointments and inform them of our cancellation policy.
  6. Check which options the member has signed up for and keep track of the number of personal training sessions that have been completed.
  7. Be very familiar with and able to demonstrate all fitness equipment in the free weight room, as well as the nautilus room.
  8. Design and implement exercise programs that are both safe and effective for members and that will help them obtain their goals.
  9. Continue to sharpen and upgrade skills in the fitness field.

10.  Put all detailed client files of all active clients in the file cabinet of the personal trainer’s office.

11.  Consult with the Fitness Director when necessary to help plan an exercise program.

12.  Become proficient at both testing and planning an exercise program for members.

13.  Document date and member’s name in three-ring binder every time you personal train.

14.  Document each appointment and keep a file in the Personal Trainer’s office. (Ex. walked 10 miles, HR 21, didn’t feel good, etc.)

15.  Wear a YMCA shirt when personal training.

16.  Work exclusively for the YMCA’s personal training program.  No personal training on your own.

17.  Attend all staff meetings.

 Pay Range: $12.00- $20.00 per hour
